Totally Wild about Natural Fibres

Recently St Albans Textiles hosted the Channel 10 children’s TV series Totally Wild. Richard Gough, Managing Director of St Albans guided viewers through the process of creating a luxury St Albans mohair throw rug.

Their latest travels took them to France - Maison & Objet (Paris) - where 3,250 exhibitors from all over the world where exhibiting their latest colours, styles and trends. From this inspiration and other influences Richard and Jodie have commenced designing the new Mohair range due for release December 2010.

Vlado Horgos weaves a wonderful life with 40 years at St Albans

Vlado is a world-class craftsman and a world class individual.

In 1970 Vlado dreamt of an apprenticeship that would allow him to follow in the footsteps of his cabinet maker father, but his dreams came true in another area. He took a job with us, a small family owned and operated textile company and has never looked back nor faltered in his loyalty and dedication to his craft.

40 years on, Vlado has a reputation worldwide as an expert craftsman who weaves age-old skill with the best modern concepts, utilising natural fibres and cutting edge technology.

His is a story which doesn't seem to exist anymore. He is a part of our family and together we continue to thrive despite some tough times for Australian manufacturing.

Next month, Vlado will celebrate his 40th anniversary with St Albans Textiles. It's a milestone that's being honoured by Richard Gough, the grandson of the man who originally employed Vlado, Lesley Gough.

St Albans Textiles Company Director, Richard, describes Vlado as a rare treasure in today's globalised manufacturing industry and fast moving workforce.

"Vlado is a natural wonder in this industry, not only for his formidable technical skills but for his unwavering loyalty," Richard said. "Vlado has been honing his craft here for four decades and has remained so open to new ideas and technologies and so adaptable that he's been able to take on a range of roles over that time. At 55 years of age, he maintains the demanding position of Production Manager in a highly specialised industry, working with state-of-the-art equipment. Not bad for a young buck who began brushing on a teazle gig way back in 1970."

Vlado admits he never planned to stay at St Albans Textiles for 40 years but says the stable, close-knit multicultural team and varied work have kept him happy and challenged.

"The company has looked after me well and they feel like family," Vlado said. "It has a terrific atmosphere and the factory runs very smoothly. The staff have been very stable too and come from all different nationalities, which is nice."

WELCOME TO NIXON - NEWEST MEMBER TO THE ST ALBANS FAMILY

Nixon (a male) was born on 16th June 2010 to proud parents Hildy and Lee and is one in a litter of 8 pups.

At 7 weeks, he was off to his Puppy Raising family to begin one-on-one socialisation in a family environment. During the year he will learn basic obedience and be gradually introduced to a range of sights and sounds they may encounter in his future role.

We will keep you up-to-date with our newest members progress.

Nixon is 14 weeks of age in these photos and has started his socialisation in quiet streets, getting used to walking on his lead, practicing recall to his name and trying not to tear up his Puppy Raising families garden!!
